Fieldwork completed for Scottish Badger Distribution Survey
The end of May saw the final fieldwork period for the Scottish Badger Distribution Survey draw to a close, with over 870 sites surveyed by a network of trained volunteers.
Survey Coordinator Elaine Rainey says "We are indebted to our hardworking volunteer network, without whom a survey of this scale would simply not have been possible. We have collected some very interesting data from across Scotland, finding badgers in the most unlikely places! We are looking forward to pulling all the data together over the coming months and creating an up-to-date picture of the density and distribution of badgers in Scotland."
The results are due to be published in Autumn 2009 and the survey is set to be repeated every five to ten years to measure changes in the Scottish badger population.
