Gamekeeper Fined £450 after failing to check snares
Royal gamekeeper Robert Elliot failed to check snares set on the Royal estate at Birkhall as a result of which two badgers were trapped and left to die. The decomposing bodies of the badgers were found by a member of the public who reported the matter to the police. The setting of snares is controlled and once set they must be checked every 24 hours and any target species humanely destroyed and non target species released. Badgers are not a legal target species. The man involved appeared at Stonehaven Sheriff Court on Thursday 17th June 2009 where he pled guilty and as a reuslt was fined £450
