Farmer Admonished
A North East Scotland farmer who set a snare too close to a badger sett was admonished when he pled guilty and appeared at Peterhead District Court earlier this month (November). The farmer who had been having trouble with foxes set the snare almost on top of the sett, about 10 metres from the nearest entrance and the alarm was raised when a badger was spotted having become entangled in the snare. Fortunately the badger was released unharmed by the SSPCA and it ran off down into the sett. Scottish Badgers asks that persons who are setting these snares take greater care where they put them. Scottish Badgers will continue to persue a total ban on the use of snares in Scotland.
