Get Sett Scotland, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, aims to create a nation of badger champions in Scotland by 2025. We’re offering a range of opportunities to get involved in protecting badgers in a way that suits you! Read on to find out about our national survey; Badger Champions programme; Equity, Diversity & Inclusion work & more!
National badger sett survey
The main activity of the project will be a re-run of the Scottish Badger Distribution Survey undertaken the by charity back in 2006-2009. The aim of this ambitious citizen science project is to estimate change in the density and distribution of badger main setts across a range of habitats in Scotland. To achieve this, we need over 500 volunteers to commit to surveying a pre-selected 1-km survey site near them, looking or badger setts, field signs and signs of human disturbance. Surveyors will also record information on habitats found within each survey site. Full training and support will be provided and travel expenses can be reimbursed. No experience necessary.
Want to get involved in the national survey? Get in touch with our Community Engagement Officer Morag Boyd (morag@scottishbadgers.org.uk) to register and get signed up for a training course near you.

Equity, diversity & inclusion
In our commitment to ensuring that everyone who wants to help badgers can help badgers, we employ a dedicated Inclusion Officer who works alongside our Programme Manager to remove barriers to engagement and to provide accommodations and additional support to those who need it. We are keen to work with a wide range of people with protected characteristics including minority ethnic groups, LGBT groups and people with disabilities. We offer dedicated sessions on wildlife surveying, use of trail cameras, practical conservation, bushcraft, wildlife crime awareness, wild wellbeing and more.
